Ra-Hoor-Khuit

What this is

Ra-Hoor-Khuit is the speaker of the third chapter of Liber AL and the active half of the composite deity Heru-Ra-Ha. The name joins the sun-god Ra with Horus, giving the hawk-headed solar warrior. In Crowley's reading he is the presiding power of the present age, which Crowley called the Aeon of Horus, said to have begun in 1904. The manifest names him the Crowned and Conquering Child, Lord of the Aeon.

What it governs

He presides over the active current of the third chapter, the sun at noon, war and the throne of the East. His is the energy of decisive force, of justice executed and boundaries defended. He governs the moments that call for direct action rather than reflection, and as Lord of the Aeon he stands as the symbol of the current age in Crowley's scheme.

Its properties

His image is the hawk-headed man enthroned, his colours the fierce gold and red of the midday sun. He answers in the correspondences to the solar-martial blend, the active and the burning. The upright face of this principle is righteous force, courage that defends and decides; the shadow is force without restraint, vengeance that outruns justice. He is understood as the principle of action when action is genuinely required, paired always with the silence of his twin Hoor-paar-kraat.

Where else it appears

Ra-Hoor-Khuit is the solar warrior in a modern skin, the same note as the archangel Michael with his sword, the Hindu Skanda the war-born son of the sun-line, the Norse Tyr who gives his hand for justice, the Greek Apollo whose arrows are sunlight. The figure of the bright hawk or eagle as the sun's active emissary is ancient and shared. Lay them together and the same decisive solar fire looks out.

Where you meet it on the Oracle

On The Day, Ra-Hoor-Khuit is the Thelemic tradition-face of Thursday. When he appears the day favours direct, decisive action and the defence of what is right. Read him as a green light for the clean cut, the clear decision, the thing done now, tempered by the reminder that his twin is silence.

Why it matters

He names the truth that there are hours when only action will serve and hesitation is its own failure. He matters because every will must sometimes become a deed in the world. He asks you to act when the hour truly calls for it.
