What this is

The Third Pentacle of the Moon is the protective seal of the lunar set in the Key of Solomon, cut to defend those who invoke the lunar spirits, guarding the operator through the workings of the night. It turns the Moon's power to the keeping of the one who calls upon her. It is the seal of safe lunar working.

What it governs

It governs the defence of those who invoke the lunar spirits. Its sphere is protection under the Moon's rule over the night: the guarding of the operator, the warding of the dangers that move in the dark hours of the lunar work. It rules the keeping of the seeker through the night and its workings.

Its properties

It is figured in silver at the Moon's hour, its border carrying the names by which the powers of the night are held off. The upright virtue of the seal is safe passage through the dark of the lunar work, the night made a shelter rather than a threat; its shadow is the fear that conjures phantoms where there are none. The pentacle teaches that the Moon rules the night and can make it a refuge, and that the one under her keeping need not fear the dark.

This protective seal is the talismanic skin of the same lunar dominion over the dark that Phul holds in the Arbatel and that Gabriel, the angel of the night annunciation, bears over Monday. On The Day, the Third Pentacle of the Moon appears as a tradition-face of Monday, the day of Moon, beside the planet itself, the angel Gabriel, and the planet's other daily faces. When it surfaces it colours the day with its single purpose, recorded in the old grimoire as one to defends those who invoke lunar spirits. Read it not as a literal talisman to cut but as the day's invitation to that exact work under Moon's hand: a pointer to the matter the day is shaped for, the door that stands open today.

Why it matters

It names the truth that the Moon rules the night and can make it a shelter, that the dark is not in itself a danger to the one she keeps. It matters because the lunar day asks you to make peace with your own night. It asks you to pass through the dark hours without fear.
