What this is

Hagith is the Olympic Spirit of Venus in the Arbatel, governor of love, beauty, and the sweetness of bonds. The tradition names her Rose-Crowned, Transmuter of Copper to Gold, naming both her flower and her alchemy. Among the seven she is the spirit of attraction itself, the force by which things draw together.

What it governs

She presides over Venus and over Friday, and over the 21 provinces of heaven assigned to her. Her dominion is beauty and adornment, love and friendship, the making of the unloved into the loved, and the transmutation of base metals into gold, for Venus is the alchemist of relation as well as of substance. She governs whatever is drawn together by desire and held together by affection.

Its properties

Her colour is green, her metal copper, her stone the emerald, and her number is 21 kings, three times the planetary seven, reckoned at 84 years. The Arbatel says she makes a person fair and loved, governs all matters of Venus, and turns copper to gold. The upright Venusian virtue is love freely given, beauty that draws the heart upward, the harmony that reconciles; the shadow is vanity and possessiveness, love that grasps, beauty made into a snare. She teaches that to be loved you must first be willing to love.

Where else it appears

Hagith is the Venus-note in another skin. It sounds again as the archangel Anael (Haniel) of Friday, as the sephirah Netzach, Victory, the warm green sphere of feeling, as Greek Aphrodite born of the sea-foam, as Roman Venus of the garden, as Norse Freya whose day Friday carries, as Hindu Shukra the bright morning star. Copper, green, the seven of Netzach, the emerald, the open heart: all are the one love wearing the dress of its tradition.
