What this is

Via is the Way, the open road. Four single points stacked head to foot make one straight line, the only figure that is pure passage with nothing held back. As Agrippa puts it, Via signifies the changing of life from one state to another; the line of points is the path itself.

What it governs

Via answers to the Moon and to Cancer, its element Water. Through the Moon it rules tides and cycles, journeys and transition: travel, relocation, the turning of a situation, the slow change that carries you somewhere you were not before. The old houses favour it most in the 3rd of short journeys and the 9th of long ones.

Its properties

Its colour is the silver-grey of moonlight, its metal silver, its number nine, its stone moonstone. The upright virtue of Via is honest movement and the nerve to leave a place that no longer fits you. Its shadow is restlessness for its own sake, never settling, change chased until nothing is ever built. In the 10th of career it warns that the role itself is about to change. Because all four lines are single and active, Via gives its whole nature away at once: it cannot hide, and it cannot stay.

Where else it appears

The straight road is one of the oldest images people share. It is the Moon's track across the night water, the Fool stepping off the edge with a bundle on a stick, the lunar tide your own body answers as surely as the sea does. The Chinese line K'an, the Abysmal Water, carries the same note: the deep that flows on and finds its level. When you feel the pull to go, that is not your idea alone but the figure moving through you.

Where you meet it on the Oracle

Via shows on the Geomancy surface as the day's figure. When it rises, the Oracle is telling you the day is a road, not a room. Expect change, travel, a shift in circumstance; nothing is fixed today, so do not strain to fix it. Read it as a clear green light for journeys and fresh starts, and a quiet warning against committing to anything meant to last. It is the perfect reverse of Populus, motion to that figure's stillness.

Why it matters

Via is so because water cannot be kept; it goes. The figure asks you to stop bracing against the current of the day and let it carry you somewhere truer. What feels like upheaval is the road doing its work.
