What this is

Puella is the Girl, charm and receptive beauty, the beloved. A graceful figure of three single points with one doubled line just under the head, said by the old masters to be lovely to look upon. Agrippa describes a young woman, beautiful, with a sweet nature; she is Venus in her air register, prevailing by grace rather than force.

What it governs

Puella answers to Venus and to Libra, element Air. Through Venus it rules love, friendship, beauty, art, and reconciliation, the gentle influence that wins by being liked. It is strongest in the 5th of romance, the 7th of marriage, the 3rd of friendly kin, and the 11th of friends.

Its properties

Its colours are rose and green, its metal copper, its number seven, its stone emerald. The virtue of Puella is sweetness, joy in company, and constancy in love-questions, where it is among the most favourable figures. Its shadow is fickleness, a charm that is all surface; in the 10th of career it is too gentle to dominate and rarely prevails there. It is good in almost everything except war and matters needing hardness.

Where else it appears

The lovely girl is Venus in every skin: Aphrodite risen from the sea-foam, Freyja with her amber tears, the Empress whose green world bears fruit by abundance rather than effort. The line of the Joyous, the lake that gives delight, strikes the same note. Across all of them runs one idea, that some things are won not by force but by being beautiful, and a teenager's first careful kindness toward someone they like is the same magic the goddess works.

Where you meet it on the Oracle

Puella shows on the Geomancy surface as the day's figure. When it rises, the Oracle marks a day soft and favourable, above all for love, friendship, and anything to do with beauty or pleasure. Read it as a green light for matters of the heart, reconciliation, and creative or social work, and as a gentle caution that what is won by charm alone may not hold if there is nothing under it. She stands opposite Puer, Venus-air to that figure's Mars-fire.

Why it matters

Puella is so because Venus rules by attraction, drawing rather than pushing. The figure asks you to soften, to let yourself be approachable, to win the day by warmth. Not everything worth having can be seized; some of it must be invited.
