Coniunctio

What this is

Coniunctio is the Conjunction, the crossroads where forces converge. Two active points meet in the inner lines with passive points above and below holding them. Agrippa names it the joining and gathering together; it is the meeting of two roads, the clasp of hands, decisions forming where separate things come into relationship.

What it governs

Coniunctio answers to Mercury and to Virgo, element Air. It rules partnerships, negotiations, meetings, and the bringing of opposites into one; it is the classical indicator for relationships meeting or reforming. It is strongest in the 7th of partnership, the 3rd of meetings, and the 11th of alliances.

Its properties

Its colours are the mixed, shifting tones of Mercury, its metal quicksilver, its stone agate, and its sign is the pair. The virtue of Coniunctio is connection and alliance, things found and matters settled by bringing parties together; lost things are often recovered under it. Its shadow is entanglement, and in the 12th of hidden enemies it warns of unwanted conjunctions, ties you did not choose. In itself it is neutral and takes its fortune from what is being joined.

Where else it appears

The meeting of two is one of the deepest shared notes. It is the alchemical wedding, the marriage of Sun and Moon, fixed and volatile, opposite poured into opposite; it is the line of fellowship where two find each other; it is the plain human truth that two hands clasping make a third thing neither hand was alone. The crossroads where Mercury stands and the wedding the alchemists drew are one figure seen from two angles.

Where you meet it on the Oracle

Coniunctio shows on the Geomancy surface as the day's figure. When it rises, the day turns on a meeting. The Oracle is telling you to look for the partnership, the conversation, the point where your matter joins someone else's. Read it as favourable for agreements, reunions, and recovering something lost, the open opposite of Carcer, meeting against that figure's imprisonment.

Why it matters

Coniunctio is so because Mercury's whole nature is to connect what stands apart. The figure asks you to seek the meeting rather than go it alone, and to weigh what you are binding yourself to before you reach out your hand. The right join completes you; the wrong one ties you down.
