Cauda Draconis

What this is

Cauda Draconis is the Tail of the Dragon, the threshold of leaving. Three active points over a doubled foot give the gate you cross on the way out. Agrippa names the descending tail of the dragon a sign of endings and what goes away; karmically it is the close of a cycle, momentum leaving.

What it governs

Cauda Draconis answers to the descending lunar node, the South Node, element Fire. It rules endings, release, and karmic closure, the cutting of ties and the receding dragon's outward momentum. It does its proper work in the 12th, releasing past karma, and the 8th, closing old cycles.

Its properties

Its colours are dark red and dusky brown, and as a node it takes its metal and stone from whatever figure it joins. The virtue of Cauda Draconis is clean completion, a good ending, release that frees you, real benefit in any matter that needs finishing or shedding. Its shadow is loss, ruin, and decay; it tends toward the fortune of the figure beside it and amplifies the ill. In the 1st of self and the 10th of career, beginnings are unfavoured here. It is for endings, exits, and getting clear, not for starting.

Where else it appears

The departing threshold is a shared note: the descending node the astrologers call the place of release and outflow; the gate of the old year closing; the door in the line of the Creative that shuts so a cycle can complete; the alchemist's separation where what is finished is parted from what continues. Even the breath let out as you leave a room for the last time is the same instant. Cauda Draconis is the moment of crossing out, in whatever skin the tradition draws it.

Where you meet it on the Oracle

Cauda Draconis shows on the Geomancy surface as the day's figure. When it rises, the Oracle marks a day of endings and exits, favourable for finishing, releasing, and walking away clean. Read it as a yes for closure and clearing the ground, and a clear warning against new beginnings or anything you hope to gain and keep. It is the departing twin of Caput Draconis, endings against that figure's beginnings.

Why it matters

Cauda Draconis is so because every cycle needs a threshold to leave by, and the descending node is where the wheel turns down toward rest. The figure asks you to finish honestly and to let go without dragging it out. An ending walked through cleanly is a beginning made possible elsewhere.
