What this is

Caput Draconis is the Head of the Dragon, the threshold of entering. A doubled head over three active points gives the gate you cross on the way in. Agrippa names the ascending head of the dragon a sign of good beginnings; karmically it is the opening of a new arc, momentum coming in.

What it governs

Caput Draconis answers to the ascending lunar node, the North Node, element Earth. It rules starts, new ventures, first steps, and the opening phase of any matter; it carries the rising dragon's inward momentum. It is strongest in the 1st of a new self, the 10th of career ascent, and the 11th of new friends.

Its properties

Its colours are green and earthy gold, and being a node rather than a planet it borrows the metal and stone of whatever figure it joins. The virtue of Caput Draconis is auspicious entry, good beginnings, the door that opens at the right moment; it tends toward the fortune of the figure beside it and amplifies the good. Its shadow is a beginning made too soon, a gate walked through without looking, and in the 8th it can mark a karmic beginning where you expected an ending. It is generally favourable, above all for anything you are about to start.

Where else it appears

The entering threshold is a shared note: the rising node the astrologers call the place of intake and growth; the gate of the new year; the doorway in the line of the Receptive that opens onto fertile ground; the alchemist's first conjunction where the work begins. Even the held breath before you step into a new room is the same instant. Caput Draconis is the moment of crossing in, in whatever skin the tradition draws it.

Where you meet it on the Oracle

Caput Draconis shows on the Geomancy surface as the day's figure. When it rises, the Oracle marks a day of beginnings and open doors, favourable for starting things and for anything you wish to bring in or grow. Read it as a yes for new ventures, and as a reminder to look before you step through, since a gate that opens for good can open for ill if you walk it blind. It is the entering twin of Cauda Draconis, beginnings against that figure's endings.

Why it matters

Caput Draconis is so because every cycle needs a threshold, and the rising node is where the wheel turns upward. The figure asks you to begin, and to begin awake. A door is only a blessing to the one who chooses to walk through it on purpose.
