What this is

Acquisitio is Gain, the harvest gathered inward. Active points at the inner and lower lines give the figure that draws things in. Agrippa names it obtaining or receiving and counts it among the two most favourable figures in the whole system; whatever is asked of it, expect increase.

What it governs

Acquisitio answers to Jupiter and to Sagittarius, element Fire. Through Jupiter it rules profit, acquisition, expansion, health, and recovery, gain of every wholesome kind. Every house favours it, the figure of gain being welcome everywhere; only in the 12th does its blessing come by hidden means.

Its properties

Its colours are royal blue and purple, its metal tin, its number four, its stone amethyst or sapphire. The virtue of Acquisitio is increase, money, property, knowledge, advantage, and it is excellent for getting back what is owed. Its shadow is greed and hoarding, increase chased past need, the appetite that grows by feeding. It answers most questions of profit with a clear yes and forms a perfect axis with its reverse, Amissio.

Where else it appears

Increase is the Jovian note in many keys: Jupiter the great benefic scattering plenty; the Wheel of Fortune turning upward toward abundance; the line of increase where the high gives to the low and all things swell; Chesed on the Tree, the sphere of mercy and overflowing measure. The full barn and the open hand of Jove are one idea. Acquisitio teaches that the increase which lasts comes by circulation as much as by getting.

Where you meet it on the Oracle

Acquisitio shows on the Geomancy surface as the day's figure. When it rises, the Oracle marks a day favourable for gain, especially material gain, the recovery of debts, and any venture meant to grow. Read it as a strong yes for money, work, and acquisition, and as a quiet caution to keep what you gain moving rather than piling it up. It is the bright pole opposite Amissio, gain against loss.

Why it matters

Acquisitio is so because Jupiter's nature is to enlarge and to bless, and a thing in its season grows. The figure asks you to act on chances for increase and to receive abundance without clutching it. Gain is good when it flows and a trap when it does not.
