What this is

Air is the connective, mobile principle: hot and moist, the element that joins one thing to another and carries the word between them. It is thought taking shape as speech, the breath that is both the first sign of life and the bearer of every name. Where Water holds and Fire burns, Air moves between, restless and clarifying.

Air rules thought, speech, intellect, and the breath of the mind. In the Oracle's scheme it carries the sanguine temperament, the suit of Swords (the playing-card Spades, ♠), and the airy triplicity — Gemini, Libra, Aquarius. Among the planets it answers to Mercury and to Jupiter, and in a life it presides over reasoning, language, learning, contracts, travel, and every relationship conducted in words.

Its properties

Its qualities are hot and moist: it warms and circulates and will not be pinned down. Air keeps the colours yellow and pale grey, the metal quicksilver or tin, the stone topaz, and the number three — the mediating term that lets two things relate.
