Cornucopia

What this is

A horn of plenty spilling its fruits, set at the head of the eleventh folio. It is the emblem of abundance, of the harvest poured out more freely than it was asked for.

What it governs

Presides over plenty, gain, and generosity: the goods that come in and the hand that passes them on. Folio 11.

Its properties

Its colour is gold and the russet of ripe fruit; its number eleven, one more than the full ten. The quality is abundance and an open hand; its shadow is waste, plenty spilled because it seemed it could never run out.

Where else it appears

The same note is the horn of Amalthea that fed the infant Jupiter and was never empty, the horn carried by Fortune and by Plenty on the old coins, the good measure pressed down and running over. One horn, many harvests.

Where you meet it on the Oracle

On the Oracle it heads the Folio of the Day on the daily Book of Fate surface, and it heads the folio your own five rows of strokes lead to when you consult the Book. The words you are given are the Book's own Answer on that folio, the one that stands beside your Sign; the Hieroglyph marks the page and does not choose the words. As a frame for the day, take what is given gladly and let some of it go on to others.

Why it matters

The Book gives its Hieroglyphs no order but their folios, and no meaning but the Answers that stand under them. In the Table a Question meets this one wherever the number of the Question and the number of the Sign together make twelve or forty-four.
