Comet

What this is

A blazing comet trailing fire, set at the head of the ninth folio. It is the emblem of the omen and the sudden break, of change that arrives without asking leave. Its verses warn of the unexpected and of the upheaval that clears as much as it disturbs.

What it governs

Presides over sudden change, disruption, omen, and the unforeseen. Folio 9. It answers to no fixed sphere because it crosses them all, the wanderer that unsettles every order it passes.

Its properties

Its colour is a livid red shading to smoke; its number nine, the threshold before the turn. The quality is the shock that clears the air, the lightning that ends a long stillness. In shadow it is panic, the omen read as doom, change resisted until it breaks a thing rather than bends it.

Where else it appears

The same note is The Tower of the arcana with its struck crown and falling figures; the comet read as the death of kings in every chronicle; Set who disrupts, Eris and her thrown apple; the lightning-flash the alchemists welcomed as the moment before transformation. Disruption wears many tails of fire.

Where you meet it on the Oracle

It surfaces as the Folio of the Day and as a closing folio. When it heads your day, brace for the unplanned: a sudden turn that, read rightly, clears ground you could not have cleared yourself. In a reading it overturns the obvious answer and warns you not to bank on things staying as they are. Do not fear it; steer it.

Why it matters

It stands ninth because no honest oracle promises a straight road. The Comet is the tradition admitting that the unexpected is part of the pattern, and asking you to meet the break as an opening rather than a verdict.
