Tzadkiel

What this is

Tzadkiel is the archangel of Jupiter, regent of Chesed, the sphere of mercy and loving-kindness, the just king-father whose name means "Righteousness of God." He is the open hand of the heavens, the one who gives, expands, and protects. Where Jupiter rules, you stand under his canopy.

What it governs

He governs Thursday and everything that grows and provides: expansion, fortune, generosity, law, and rightful increase. His sphere is the benevolence that makes room, the wealth that is meant to be shared, the authority that rules by mercy rather than fear. He is the principle of more, kept in proportion.

Its properties

His colour is royal blue, the hue of the open sky and of kingship; his metal is tin, his stone the sapphire, his number four, the number of the foundation and of the stable throne. The Wheel of Fortune is his card, the turning that lifts as readily as it lowers. His upright virtue is true generosity, abundance that overflows to others. His shadow is excess, the same expansion gone slack: indulgence, sprawl, the appetite that mistakes growth for purpose.

Where else it appears

Tzadkiel is the jovial note in many keys. He is Jupiter and Zeus on the high throne, but more truly the sky-father in his bountiful mood, Thor whose hammer also hallows, the Dagda with his cauldron that never empties, Marduk the just orderer, the principle of grace that fills the granary and tempers the law. The blue of the sky, the turning wheel, the sphere of mercy, the throne that gives rather than takes: lay them together and one principle opens its hand. Fortune and mercy are the same note in different skins.

Where you meet it on the Oracle

On the Oracle he stands in the Day's planetary trinity on Thursdays and in the Jupiter hours, and he is the angel behind a jovial herb when one is in season in the Green Kingdom. When Tzadkiel surfaces, the reading favours growth, generosity, and good fortune: the opportunity to expand, the gift worth giving, the door that opens. Read him as a sign to be open-handed and to step through. The day rewards generosity and rightful ambition, not hoarding.

Why it matters

He matters because abundance is only a blessing when it moves, and every tradition that imagined a bountiful heaven also warned against the granary that is never opened. Tzadkiel is generosity made cosmic. When he appears he asks you to give from your increase, and to let your good fortune lift more than yourself.
