The blind woman of the Bulgarian hills who heard the dead, was studied by a communist state, and became, after her death, the most famous prophet on the internet — most of whose prophecies she never made.
A true account, told with honour and without flattery.
Vangelia Pandeva Gushterova was born in 1911 and died in 1996. Between those dates lived a real woman: blind from girlhood, poor for most of her life, visited by the grieving and the powerful alike, and in the end the keeper of a small white church she raised with the coins strangers left behind.
After those dates lives a legend, and the legend is mostly someone else’s work.
This book keeps the two apart on purpose. The woman deserves the facts — and the facts, as you will see, are stranger and finer than anything sold in her name.
